About University of North Texas

The University of North Texas, more often referred to as simply UNT or North Texas, is a public university located in Denton, which is the county seat of Denton County, situated in the US state of Texas, a city with a population estimated at a number of nearly 120 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census, fact which makes it the eleventh largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

UNT was founded by Joshua Crittenden Chilton as the Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute, in 1890, its name having been chaged 6 times over the years, since then, to reflect its growth and change, the institution finally adopting its current name in 1988. With an enrollment of over 36,000 students, UNT is today the fourth-largest university in the state by enrollment, offering various graduate degrees, in numerous fields of study, in coordination with Texas Woman's University and Texas A&M University-Commerce.
